Baku called for a comprehensive and objective investigation into the crime to establish all the circumstances of the incident, emphasizing its readiness to provide the necessary legal assistance within the framework of international cooperation.
The investigation of the case, as noted by the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General’s Office, is being closely monitored. Baku explained that they decided to contact the Georgian side because the murder has caused a widespread public outcry, and the deceased was a citizen of Azerbaijan.
It has emerged that the necessary procedural actions are being carried out against the suspect, a relative of the deceased: after leaving Georgia, he was detained in Turkey.
The Prosecutor General’s Office emphasized that they will seek to hold the perpetrator accountable and will continue to use all available mechanisms of international legal cooperation to facilitate a full and objective investigation of the crime.
To recall, 20-year-old Azerbaijani citizen Fatima Kerimova was found dead in a rented apartment in Tbilisi on June 26. According to investigators, the young woman was killed by her cousin. Relatives of the deceased and human rights activists believe that the crime may have been committed as a so-called “honor killing.” According to media reports, after the murder, the suspect left Georgia and was detained in Turkey.
