The construction company building a residential building on Marijani Street in Tbilisi will be fined 30,000 lari for safety violations. This was announced by Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze. He added that construction work at the site will also be suspended following the collapse of a construction pit slope due to heavy rainfall.

The mayor noted that the company has already been instructed to carry out reinforcement work on the site. Once a project is prepared to confirm the safety of neighboring plots and adjacent buildings, construction will be allowed to resume.

“The site at 4 Marijani Street, where heavy rainfall caused the collapse of the construction pit slope, is one of the construction projects intended for families affected by the activities of the Center Point company.

Tbilisi City Hall did not engage any of the construction companies that took on contractual obligations to perform the construction work. We gave the affected families the opportunity to decide for themselves which company they wanted to hire for construction at this site,” said the capital’s mayor and secretary general of Georgian Dream.

According to him, a report by the Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau concluded that there is no threat to the residents of the neighboring residential building.

Kaladze noted that Center Point had previously carried out construction on this plot. The pit was created following the demolition of an unfinished, hazardous building associated with one of the housing projects for families affected by the company’s activities.

Currently, the work at the site is being carried out by the Next Door company. A total of 433 families affected by Center Point’s activities are expected to receive housing on Marijani Street.

The construction permit for this plot was issued in 2024. However, as Kaladze emphasized, changes had to be made to the project due to the need for a pile foundation and the presence of an old, currently unused collector beneath the site.
