The criminal case concerning the premeditated group murder of Giorgi Kvaratskhelia, committed in 2015, has been solved, Tbilisi Prosecutor Giorgi Mikaya announced at a briefing at the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia. Two individuals will be charged in connection with this criminal case.
“The investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor’s Office, established that David Dekanosidze and Tornike Kacharava, due to a conflict that had previously occurred between the latter’s brother and Giorgi Kvaratskhelia, decided to take revenge on him and commit his group murder.
On December 25, 2015, Tornike Kacharava, armed with an illegally acquired 7.65 mm caliber firearm, and David Dekanosidze, armed with an illegally acquired 9 mm pistol, arrived at the residential building of Giorgi Kvaratskhelia; while he was in the courtyard of the house, the accused fired numerous shots in his direction.
As a result, Kvaratskhelia sustained a gunshot wound to the head, with damage to the skull bones and brain. Despite receiving medical assistance, he died in a medical facility.
Tornike Kacharava will be charged in a penitentiary facility, and David Dekanosidze in absentia, under subparagraph “e” of part two of Article 109 (as amended at the time of the crime) of the Criminal Code of Georgia – premeditated murder committed by a group of persons. This article carries a penalty of up to 17 years in prison.
Within the time limit established by law, the Prosecutor’s Office will petition the court to order detention as a preventive measure against the accused.
David Dekanosidze will be placed on the wanted list.
The investigation of the criminal case continues at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia in order to identify other individuals who may be involved in this crime,” Giorgi Mikaya stated.
