The pro-government television channel Imedi TV reported that the individual detained by the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) in connection with the events of October 4 is Beka Chulukhadze.

Earlier, during a briefing by the agency’s deputy head Lasha Magradze, the SSSG stated that a wanted Georgian citizen had been detained in the neutral zone between checkpoints on the Georgian-Armenian border. He stated that the detainee is accused of acquiring and storing a large quantity of firearms, ammunition, and explosives. The investigation claims that these materials may have been intended for organizing acts of sabotage during the events of October 4, 2025, when an attempt was made to storm the Orbeliani Palace, the residence of the President of Georgia.

As a reminder, on October 4, 2025, a protest rally was held in Tbilisi near the presidential palace on Atoneli Street, which escalated into clashes and an attempted break-in at the Orbeliani Palace. The events took place on the day of municipal elections in Georgia. One of the organizers of the rally, Paata Burchuladze, announced the creation of a “National Assembly” and called on law enforcement agencies to disobey the authorities.

Law enforcement agencies detained the organizers and participants of the “October 4 storming.” At the time, the SSSG stated that it viewed the events of October 4 as an organized attempt at a violent takeover of state facilities.

The day after the events, the SSSG reported the discovery of a cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives near Tbilisi. According to the agency, the cache contained firearms, ammunition, and explosives with detonators. The investigation claimed that these materials could have been used to organize acts of sabotage during the unrest.

According to the SSSG’s version of events, one of the suspects in the case acquired the weapons and ammunition on the instructions of a Georgian citizen linked to a military unit operating in Ukraine. The agency stated that the materials may have been intended for the organizers of the October 4 events.

Following the launch of the investigation, law enforcement authorities began detaining participants and potential organizers of the events. Among those whose names appeared in the investigation materials were Paata Burchuladze and others. Burchuladze himself denied the allegations and refused to testify to the SSSG, declaring through his lawyer that the prosecution was politically motivated.

Subsequently, the SSSG stated that it was investigating potential links between those involved in the case and former Georgian Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia, Paata Burchuladze, and others. The authorities continue to maintain that they are investigating not only the riots themselves but also the potential preparation of acts of sabotage.

The detention of the wanted Georgian citizen on the Georgian-Armenian border, which the SSSG reported on July 10, is a continuation of this investigation. According to the investigators, the detainee may be linked to the acquisition and storage of weapons and explosives that could have been used during the events of October 4.
