Azerbaijani citizen accused of killing relative detained in Batumi

An Azerbaijani citizen, Emin Aliyev, who according to investigators killed his cousin, also an Azerbaijani citizen, Fatima Karimova, in a Tbilisi apartment where they lived together, has been detained at Batumi International Airport. This information was released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

“As a result of joint operational and investigative measures, officers from the Tbilisi Police Department and the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained the suspect accused of a murder committed in Tbilisi at Batumi International Airport.

The detention of the accused was carried out in close coordination with Turkish and Azerbaijani colleagues, as well as with the direct participation of the Georgian police attaché in Turkey.

According to the investigation, on June 27 of this year, the accused inflicted life-threatening injuries on his relative in a temporarily used apartment in Tbilisi, resulting in her death at the scene.

During search and investigative operations conducted in the immediate aftermath, the police established the suspect’s identity and placed him on a wanted list.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.
