Despite the ongoing expansion of the EU, Georgia is currently not among the countries advancing on the path to joining the bloc, EU Ambassador to Georgia Pawel Herczynski said during an event dedicated to Europe Day in Batumi. According to the diplomat, the European Union has remained a reliable partner of Georgia for over 30 years, and the EU’s support for the country remains unwavering; however, the EU’s rules, based on the principles of democratic development, also remain unchanged.
“I am glad to celebrate Europe Day here in Batumi once again. The Polish melody ‘Batumi, ech Batumi,’ well known to many, sings of the greatness of this city. Batumi is the pearl of the Black Sea, an open and multifaceted city that unites different cultures, traditions, and experiences. Who better than you knows the value of tolerance and harmonious coexistence?
Europe’s strength lies in its diversity and commitment to common rules. It is the adherence to these rules that has ensured peace, prosperity, and development for the member states of the European Union for nearly 80 years.
By overcoming global challenges, Europe only grows stronger. Moreover, the EU is expanding. Countries that share common rules continue to make progress toward membership. Unfortunately, Georgia is not among them. We do not lose hope that this is temporary.
For more than 30 years, we have stood alongside Georgia as a reliable and dedicated partner. The European Union’s support for Georgia remains unwavering. At the same time, our rules also remain unchanged. Progress on the path to EU membership is founded on democratic development,” Pawel Herczynski stated.
