David Songulashvili, Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, inspected Telavi, where a natural disaster has caused significant damage. The Minister noted that recovery efforts are already actively underway.

“The disaster was on a massive scale. Based on the initial assessment, it is clear that the damage is quite severe. A prompt response from the state is particularly crucial right now. All relevant ministries have been mobilized to assess and calculate the damage as quickly as possible and begin clean-up operations. Infrastructure restoration work is actively underway. Naturally, the damage to agriculture will be assessed separately. It is vital to restore the damaged infrastructure as quickly as possible so that the city can return to its normal rhythm of life,” Songulashvili stated.

As a reminder, heavy rainfall caused the Telavishevi River in Telavi to overflow its banks. As a result, sections of Kavkasioni and Alazani Avenues were flooded. Torrents of water breached the riverbed and rushed onto the city streets. The ground floors of residential buildings, commercial premises, pharmacies, and shops were flooded. Vehicles and power lines were also damaged.
