Officers from the Juvenile Affairs Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department have detained five minors. They are accused of a series of thefts and robberies.
Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that three of the detainees had prior convictions and are currently on probation.
According to the investigation, the teenagers conspired in advance to commit the crimes and acted as a group, stealing goods of various values from pharmacies and grocery stores in Tbilisi before fleeing the scene.
One of the accused, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, illegally took possession of several mopeds belonging to citizens.
The damage caused to the retail outlets exceeded 14,000 lari.
During searches, law enforcement officers seized CCTV footage which, according to the investigation, confirms the involvement of the detainees in the crimes.
All five minors were detained as defendants on the basis of a court warrant.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 177 (“Theft”) and 178 (“Robbery”) of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The maximum penalty under these articles is up to 8 years in prison.
