Georgian Foreign Minister and Vice Prime Minister Maka Bochorishvili commented on a statement by Kaja Kallas, who explained that there are “virtually” no political contacts with the Georgian government, but Brussels intends to support the Georgian people.
According to Bochorishvili, it is regrettable when the EU’s top diplomat openly states that she does not intend to cooperate with the Georgian government, which was “elected based on the democratic will of the Georgian people, while at the same time speaking of supporting this very same people.”
The Minister noted that Georgia cannot remain silent when the democratic choice of the Georgian people is being ignored.
“The foundation of a true partnership is dialogue, not distancing ourselves from one another. Georgia remains committed to cooperation with the European Union, based on respect and mutual understanding, in accordance with the interests of our citizens and for the sake of our shared European future.
But we cannot remain silent when the democratic choice of the Georgian people is ignored. Democracy means respecting the voters’ decision — not only when it is politically convenient,” Maka Bochorishvili stated.
