Prime Minister: Modernization of Tbilisi Airport Begins

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced the launch of one of the largest projects to expand and modernize the Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport. Upon completion of the works, the capacity of the country’s main airport will increase to 10 million passengers per year.

The head of government announced that under an agreement between the state and TAV Georgia, the investor will invest more than $150 million in the project.

The interests of the state were fully taken into account when concluding the agreement, he noted.

“We are starting the implementation of one of the most large-scale projects to expand and develop the Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport. Following the completion of the project, its capacity will increase to 10 million passengers per year. For us, the priority is not only infrastructure development, but also creating a modern, comfortable environment for passengers that meets international standards,” Kobakhidze stated.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Tbilisi International Airport is one of Georgia’s key strategic infrastructure facilities. According to him, the development of the airport will contribute to the country’s economic growth, improve transport connectivity, enhance tourism and investment attractiveness, create new jobs, and strengthen Georgia’s position in the regional and global transport system.

Kobakhidze also noted that the authorities intend not only to expand the airport’s infrastructure, but also to create a modern, comfortable environment for passengers that meets international standards.
