Georgia is losing ground in the Global Freedom and Prosperity Indexes. According to the Atlantic Council’s 2026 report, which covers 171 countries, Georgia is among the nations that have seen a decline in their freedom indicators.

“In countries such as Burkina Faso, Ecuador, El Salvador, Georgia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Peru, Sudan, and Tunisia, a significant deterioration in the Legal Subindex has been observed since 2020.

In some cases, these changes are associated with coups d’état, armed conflicts, or the weakening of institutional control mechanisms and pressure on public safety,” the report states.

The report also notes that Georgia’s decline in the rankings was negatively impacted by issues with the rule of law, judicial independence, corruption, and the protection of property rights, as well as a deterioration of political freedoms.
