British citizen Matthew Roy Desmond, accused of attempting to import a large quantity of narcotics and psychotropic substances into Georgia, has reached a plea agreement with the prosecutor’s office.

Judge Nino Galustashvili found the British national guilty and ordered him to pay a fine of 100,000 lari. Additionally, the court ordered Desmond’s deportation from Georgia and banned him from entering the country for a period of 20 years.

After being released in the courtroom, Desmond was handed over to migration service officers.

According to official information, customs officers found 112 tablets containing 0.0224 grams of buprenorphine (Subutex), 50 tablets containing 0.75 grams of codeine, and 39 capsules containing 5.8484 grams of pregabalin, a psychotropic substance, in the British national’s hand luggage.

The prosecutor’s office stated that at the time of his arrest, Desmond failed to provide any medical documentation proving that such a quantity of three different types of narcotic and psychotropic drugs had been prescribed to him by a doctor.
