Foreigner detained in Georgia for attempting to illegally import psychotropic drug

Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have detained a foreign national on charges of illegally importing a large quantity of a psychotropic substance into the country.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the detention took place at the Kazbegi customs checkpoint. During a search of the suspect and his luggage, law enforcement officers discovered and seized 84 capsules containing the psychotropic substance pregabalin.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
