The lawyer for the defendant in the case concerning an incident at a Telavi hotel stated that the management of the Agarani Estate hotel has expressed readiness to post bail for Giorgi Chigladze.
Lasha Kapanadze noted that it is highly likely the hotel will pay the bail set by the court.
“Giorgi Chigladze thanks the Georgian people for their support, as well as the journalists who are covering the events and keeping the public informed about the progress of the case. The hotel administration has expressed readiness to pay the bail amount, and it will most likely be posted,” the lawyer stated.
He also noted that a call was made to the 112 emergency service after the incident, but in his opinion, the hotel administration itself could have prevented the conflict from escalating at an earlier stage.
Regarding the possibility of reaching a plea agreement with the prosecution, Kapanadze stated that he was not yet ready to comment on it, but did not rule out such an option entirely.
Speaking on whether the use of the Russian language by citizens of the Russian Federation and Turkey could have provoked the conflict, the lawyer refuted this version. He stated that the incident was caused by provocative behavior, including the pouring of various liquids and offensive remarks.
“There was no connection to the Russian language. We respect all guests, but guests should not engage in provocations either,” Kapanadze concluded.
As a reminder, Giorgi Chigladze was detained following an incident at a hotel in Telavi. A criminal case has been opened against him under Article 120 of the Criminal Code of Georgia — intentional infliction of minor bodily harm. The maximum penalty under this article is up to three years in prison.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during a wedding, foreign citizens staying at the hotel insulted the wedding guests from their room’s balcony and poured water over the musical equipment. Following this, the defendant inflicted bodily injuries on a female foreign citizen. The victim was taken to a clinic for medical treatment.
It is also noted that administrative proceedings have been initiated against singer Aleksandre Mrelashvili. The Ministry of Internal Affairs claims that he was summoned to the police department as a witness in the wedding incident case. During questioning, he refused to remain at the station for an extended period, after which, according to the ministry, he insulted police officers and damaged a storage locker.
