The Telavi District Court has ruled on a pre-trial restriction for Giorgi Chigladze, who was detained in connection with an incident during a wedding at the Agarani Estate hotel in Telavi. The court ordered the defendant’s release on 5,000 lari bail.
The decision was delivered by Judge Tamar Kapanadze, who partially granted the prosecution’s motion. Following the announcement of the ruling, Chigladze was released in the courtroom.
The prosecution had requested a bail of 5,000 lari as a preventive measure that would entail detention until the amount was paid. The defense, in turn, requested that the bail be granted without detention.
According to the prosecution, Chigladze entered a room occupied by wedding guests—citizens of the Russian Federation and Turkey—without permission and assaulted one of them. Prosecutor Beka Natelauri stated that the defendant first struck the victim in the shoulder and then in the face, causing a fractured nose and a concussion.
The defense disputed the prosecution’s arguments, pointing out that Chigladze had cooperated with the investigation from the very first hours and had no intention of fleeing. The lawyers noted that they did not object to the bail, and the hotel had expressed readiness to pay the required amount.
During the hearing, Judge Tamar Kapanadze noticed an injury on the defendant’s neck and asked if it had been sustained during his arrest by police officers. Chigladze replied that it had not.
When asked by the court whether the defendant pleaded guilty, the lawyer stated that his client stood by the testimony he had previously given to the investigators.
