Member of the European Parliament Michael Gahler commented on the decision of the Tbilisi City Court to sentence journalist Vakho Sanaia to 14 days of administrative arrest over a social media post, stating that “Soviet Georgia is becoming a reality.”
“Formula TV journalist Vakho Sanaia was sentenced to 14 days of arrest for a post on Facebook. The fact that he would have received a much harsher punishment in Russia is no consolation at all.
This shows which side of Europe Georgia is on today – on the side of its authoritarian part,” the MEP wrote.
As a reminder, the Tbilisi City Court sentenced Vakho Sanaia to 14 days of administrative arrest over a post on social media concerning Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili and MP Vladimer Bozhadze.
