The Kulevi oil refinery has been included in the European Union’s 21st package of sanctions against Russia. The sanctions against the facility form part of the 21st package of restrictive measures imposed by the EU on Russia. A transaction ban is being introduced against the Georgian oil refinery, which will take effect in six months. In particular, the statement by the Council of the EU reads:
“In addition, the EU is introducing restrictions in the oil sector, specifically targeting oil refineries. Sanctions affect 18 entities and one individual operating in the oil industry, including three oil refineries in Russia, a major oil refinery in Belarus, as well as a company established to sell Belarusian petroleum products in Russia.
Furthermore, the package provides for the possibility of prohibiting transactions with sanctioned oil refineries in Russia and third countries that process Russian crude oil and petroleum products.
As part of these measures, the EU is introducing a transaction ban, which will take effect in six months, against the Georgian oil refinery in Kulevi, which is engaged in the trade and processing of Russian oil.
In addition, the EU has added five more oil traders to the sanctions list for violating the ban on purchasing Russian crude oil and petroleum products.”
