Georgia’s fifth President, Salome Zourabichvili, welcomed the European Union’s efforts aimed at revoking Syria’s recognition of the independence of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region.
“Against the backdrop of the Georgian government’s silence, it is the European Union that is defending our sovereignty. Georgia’s territorial integrity is beyond question. I thank our European partners,” Zourabichvili wrote on social media.
As a reminder, a statement released earlier by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania noted that “the European Union and its member states are ready to work with the People’s Council of Syria to achieve common goals, including compliance with international law and the UN Charter by revoking decisions made under Assad that recognized the violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and Georgia.”
