Activists Detained at Sakrebulo Protest Fined and Handed Administrative Detention

The Tbilisi City Court has found activists detained during a protest outside the Tbilisi Sakrebulo (City Assembly) guilty of administrative offenses.

According to the ruling by Judge Zviad Tsekvava:

Earlier, court hearings were also held in the cases of activists Vaso Beridze and Ia Melitauri. The court fined Beridze 5,000 GEL and sentenced Melitauri to 5 days of administrative detention.

The hearing in the case of Tornike Tikaradze has been postponed to July 31, at 14:00.

As a reminder, ten people were detained during the protest outside the Tbilisi Sakrebulo building: Tornike Tokhshua, Mariam Mekantsishvili, Ia Melitauri, Nato Bolkvadze, Sandro Sekhniashvili, Lasha Dgebuadze, Vaso Beridze, Marine Nanava, Tornike Tikaradze, and Shako Bagdoshvili.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the detainees were holding banners featuring offensive inscriptions.

They were detained under Articles 166 (petty hooliganism) and 173 (disobedience to a lawful demand of a police officer) of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Georgia.
