A so-called court in the occupied territory of Donetsk Oblast has sentenced Georgian citizen Kakhaber Amiranashvili, who fought on Ukraine’s side, in absentia to 13 years and six months in prison on charges of participating in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian media report.
According to Russian investigative authorities, Amiranashvili arrived in Ukraine in the spring of 2022, joined the Georgian National Legion, underwent military training, and took part in combat operations against the Russian Armed Forces until July 2022.
As reported by Russian media, the handed-down sentence is to be served in a maximum-security penal colony. It is also reported that the Georgian national has been placed on an international wanted list.
