Irakli Kupradze, one of the leaders of the Strong Georgia – Lelo coalition, stated that the fourth criminal charge brought against Aleko Elisashvili stems from the alleged contempt of a Georgian court. However, in his view, the true insult to the judicial system was Bidzina Ivanishvili entrusting it to Levan Murusidze.
“We see a clear picture: a fourth criminal case has already been opened against Aleko Elisashvili. This confirms once again that Mamuka Mdinaradze—this small man seeking new ministries and positions for himself—has been unable to overcome his personal animosity toward Elisashvili. Murusidze’s court has failed to provide a proper legal evaluation of what is happening. This is not a legal process, but a political one…
The fourth charge relates to Aleko Elisashvili allegedly showing disrespect to the Georgian court. But I ask a simple question: who truly insulted Georgian justice, if not Bidzina Ivanishvili, who handed over the judiciary and the administration of justice in the country to Levan Murusidze?” Kupradze said.
He recalled that Murusidze served as a judge in the Sandro Girgvliani case and, according to him, bears responsibility for numerous controversial judicial decisions that led to the destruction of the judicial system, the violation of the rights of thousands of citizens, and business expropriations.
In conclusion, Kupradze stated that under the current prosecution service and judicial system, none of the cases against Elisashvili can be regarded as legitimate, and all individuals involved, in his words, in fabricating these proceedings will eventually have to answer before an independent court and non-politicized investigative bodies.
Aleko Elisashvili, one of the leaders of the Lelo – Strong Georgia coalition, will be formally served with a new charge, his lawyers report. According to the defense team, the Prosecutor’s Office intends to charge the politician with contempt of court. The indictment is scheduled for July 31 at 1:00 PM.
