Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the country’s authorities still count on restoring the strategic partnership with the United States and expect reciprocal steps from the American side. According to him, recent events provide grounds for cautious optimism.
“We maintain optimistic expectations that the strategic partnership will be restored. We are patiently waiting for reciprocal steps from the US,” Kobakhidze said at a briefing.
Commenting on statements by US Congressman Joe Wilson, who regularly criticizes the Georgian authorities, the prime minister declared that his opinion holds no weight for Tbilisi.
“We are completely uninterested in what yet another agent of the ‘Deep State’, Joe Wilson, has to say.”
Kobakhidze reiterated that Georgia offers Washington a reset in relations “from a clean slate”—based on a concrete roadmap, equality, and mutual benefit. According to him, the Georgian side has already publicly outlined its proposal, and further developments now depend on the decisions of the US administration.
