Legal defenders of convicted Aleko Elisashvili, one of the leaders of Strong Georgia – Lelo, are appealing the conviction handed down against the politician in the court of appeals.
According to a statement released by the defense team of Aleko Elisashvili, the charge brought against him is absurd and serves to persecute the politician and take revenge on him on behalf of Georgian Dream.
“Tomorrow, August 5, at 11:00, the legal representatives of Aleko Elisashvili, Giorgi Rekhviashvili and Archil Chopikashvili, will appeal the first-instance verdict in the court of appeals. The case concerns the so-called ‘broken glass’ case, which through the efforts of Georgian Dream was classified by the regime court as an attempted act of terrorism, leading the court of first instance to sentence the opposition politician to 13 years of imprisonment.
The absurd charge brought against Elisashvili is persecution of the politician and revenge against him by Georgian Dream. The defense side will use all legal mechanisms to achieve justice and secure Elisashvili’s acquittal on this absurd charge,” the statement reads.
For reference, the court found the politician, one of the leaders of Strong Georgia – Lelo, Aleko Elisashvili, guilty after he was detained on charges of attempting to commit an act of terrorism. By the decision of Judge Giorgi Gelashvili, the detained politician was sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment.
