According to the Prosecutor’s Office, in the Giga Avaliani case, charges have been brought against Imnadze and Beruashvili for “incitement to the intentional infliction of grave harm to health committed by a group of persons” and “failure to report a particularly serious crime.”
“During the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office, it was established that in September 2025, Niya Imnadze began preparing for a mathematics exam with Giga Avaliani. The accused, Niya Imnadze, told her friends Aleksandre Gabashvili and Giorgi Malania that her teacher, Giga Avaliani, had allegedly shown excessive attention toward her. Through these actions, the accused incited Aleksandre Gabashvili to attack Giga Avaliani together with accomplices.
Aleksandre Gabashvili, together with Giorgi Rikadze, Giorgi Malania, and Demetre Chikovani, decided to carry out this incitement. For this purpose, they identified Giga Avaliani, checked his social media accounts, and downloaded his photograph to memorize his appearance. They determined his work and residential addresses, studied his work schedule, and mapped his route from work to home. They selected a location to execute their plan and began surveillance.
On the evening of September 29, 2025, Aleksandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze, and Demetre Chikovani arrived at an educational center in the Zgvisubani neighborhood of Tbilisi to settle scores. They set up an ambush and created all the conditions for an attack; however, on that day, they were unable to carry out their plan due to circumstances beyond their control.
On October 1, 2025, according to the plan developed by Aleksandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze, and Demetre Chikovani, Aleksandre Gabashvili and Giorgi Rikadze jointly attacked Giga Avaliani, who sustained severe injuries and subsequently died in a medical facility on October 24, 2025.
Immediately after the crime was committed, Giorgi Rikadze contacted his friend Anastasia Beruashvili and informed her of the group attack on Giga Avaliani and the harm inflicted on his health as a result. Despite knowing about the particularly serious crime committed against Giga Avaliani, Anastasia Beruashvili failed to report it to law enforcement authorities,” the statement reads.
The statement released by the Prosecutor’s Office notes that, based on a motion filed by the prosecution and a court order, law enforcement officers detained Niya Imnadze and Anastasia Beruashvili on August 5.
Niya Imnadze has been charged under Article 25 and Article 117, Part 3, Subparagraph “l” of the Criminal Code of Georgia (incitement to the intentional infliction of grave harm to health committed by a group of persons), which carries a penalty of up to 13 years in prison.
Anastasia Beruashvili has been charged under Article 376, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (failure to report a particularly serious crime), which carries a penalty of up to 7 years in prison.
