18 years ago, Russia invaded Georgia. This attack and the subsequent occupation of Georgian territory by Russia are today as illegal and unacceptable as they were in 2008, wrote Kevin Hamilton, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, on social media.
“NATO stands firm in its support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Russia must withdraw its occupying forces from Georgian territory.”
According to Hamilton, Georgia has been one of NATO’s closest partners for decades.
“Our partnership is as strong as ever — built on practical cooperation, driven by an unwavering commitment to resilience and stability, and firmly focused on the future,” the alliance’s special representative stated.
