Tazo Datunashvili, a member of the “Lelo – Strong Georgia” party, commented on statements made by the authorities on the anniversary of the start of the 2008 “August War,” calling them a collective “21st-century Sergo Ordzhonikidze.” He was responding to attempts to place responsibility for unleashing the war on Tbilisi.
“The ’21st-century Sergo Ordzhonikidzes’ cannot and do not want to mention Russia. In these difficult days for Georgia, they talk about Russophobia and Russian imperial propaganda, and threaten the Georgian people with prison for hating the enemy.”
According to Datunashvili, having these people in power insults Georgia’s sovereignty and national dignity.
“These are tragic days in Georgia. Georgia honors its heroes who defended their land with their blood. Tragic days, because in the 21st century we are marking the 18th anniversary of Russian occupation, war, and genocide on Georgian territory. Meanwhile, traitors to the motherland disguised in official uniforms stood at the memorial of those heroes whose memory, dignity, and military spirit they insult—traitors masquerading in the uniforms of top state officials.”
