Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council and former President of Russia, stated that the West used Georgia as an instrument of geopolitical struggle against Moscow when it suited its interests. He made these remarks in an interview with RIA Novosti, commenting on the events of August 2008.
“The West acted then, as it does now, in line with its usual policy, which is based on ingrained Russophobia and a desire to destroy Russia by any means.”
According to Medvedev, in such a struggle, the West relies “specifically on scum that stops at nothing”: “European hypocrites hire bandits, hitmen, and suicide bombers. These degenerates are stupid and ambitious, fully dependent on their sponsors, easy to control, and simple to get rid of later.”
Speaking about Saakashvili, the Deputy Chairman also stated that all it takes is cutting off their funding channels and publicly disowning them as soon as the situation becomes a complete stalemate.
“The West used Georgia solely as a blunt instrument of geopolitical struggle against us at a time when it was advantageous to do so. The fate of this country, despite all the promises about joining NATO and the EU, was of absolutely no interest to them.”
According to Medvedev, the West later realized it would achieve nothing in this direction and abandoned its “stepdaughter” to her fate.
“I wouldn’t say that Georgia has recovered from the shock it experienced… Conclusions have certainly been drawn. Today, Tbilisi is pursuing a pragmatic policy. But the damage caused by the actions of that criminal regime will be felt for a long time to come,” said the Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council.
During the interview, Medvedev also stated that Armenia could repeat Georgia’s fate if it continues to follow a Western course. He expressed conviction that: “As soon as Armenia ceases to be of interest to them as a battering ram against Russia, Western weather vanes will instantly renege on all their promises.”
