The individual protection zone of the Gelati Monastery and its adjacent territory have been granted the status of a special regulation area, media outlet BPN reports. This is stipulated by Georgian Government Decree No. 382 dated August 10, signed by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

According to the document, the territory—assigned this status based on cultural heritage considerations—includes the visual protection zone of the Gelati Monastery and the surrounding area, and also extends to parts of the Tkibuli, Tskaltubo, and Terjola municipalities.

Under the adopted decree, the Spatial and Urban Development Agency—a legal entity of public law operating under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development—has been instructed to draft and approve a general development plan and/or a detailed land-use plan for the area in accordance with the law.
