Members of the Georgian opposition believe that the import of fuel into Abkhazia from territory controlled by official Tbilisi could amount to supplying Russian military bases stationed in the occupied region. This was stated by economist, opposition politician, and former President of the National Bank of Georgia, Roman Gotsiridze.
“The import of fuel into Abkhazia by a Georgian company with the permission of the ‘Dream’ [ruling Georgian Dream party] government actually amounts to supplying Russian military bases.
It is imperative to immediately disclose which company imported fuel into Abkhazia, in what volume, and whether Russian occupation forces used it. It cannot be ruled out that the fuel was also transferred to the territory of Russia. The company involved in this treason will not escape sanctions,” Gotsiridze wrote on social media.
Earlier, media reports surfaced indicating that, amid a fuel crisis in Abkhazia, fuel was delivered to the region from territory controlled by the Georgian authorities. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze later confirmed this information, clarifying that the supply was carried out by private business, not the government.
