Germany will have a new ambassador to Georgia — diplomat Barbara Voss has been appointed to the role.
On June 30, former German Ambassador Peter Fischer posted on X announcing the conclusion of his mandate in Tbilisi. Fischer was known for his critical stance on the actions of the ruling Georgian Dream party, which frequently made him a target of attacks.
“The ongoing tension complicates relations between Germany, the European Union, and Georgia. Nevertheless, Germany’s active support for the country’s democratic and pro-European course remains steadfastly strong,” wrote Barbara Voss, the new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Prior to her appointment as ambassador in Tbilisi, Voss served as Germany’s Consul General in Kolkata (India) from 2023. The diplomat’s career background:
