The opposition party “Lelo – Strong Georgia” demands the disclosure of the company that delivered fuel to occupied Abkhazia. Levan Samushia, one of the party’s leaders, believes that the Prime Minister’s statement claiming everything was done in compliance with national legislation is not enough.
According to the opposition politician, members of “Georgian Dream” possess a “corrupt appetite,” as evidenced by allegations against their high-ranking officials; therefore, exhaustive and detailed answers must be provided to the existing questions.
“There are doubts surrounding this issue, and they must be answered. It is not enough to rely solely on Kobakhidze’s response that they acted in compliance with the Law on Occupied Territories. We know their corrupt appetites. The fact that Georgian Dream is mired in corruption is evidenced by the charges and convictions against former high-ranking officials.
Key questions must be raised here: first and foremost, who is the fuel supplier—that is, what is its origin—and who is the recipient? Proper answers must be given to these questions. Was this action carried out in accordance with Georgia’s Law on Occupied Territories? Were Georgia’s national interests protected in the process?” Samushia stated.
Initially, reports emerged in the media stating that against the backdrop of a fuel crisis in Abkhazia, fuel was delivered to the region from territory controlled by official Tbilisi. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze later confirmed this information, clarifying that the supply was carried out by private business rather than the government, but in full accordance with legislation and all required procedures. Nevertheless, part of the opposition expressed concern that the fuel delivered to Abkhazia might have actually been intended for Russia.
