Georgian Interior Ministry: Journalist Koba Partenadze detained for insulting police

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Adjara Public Broadcaster journalist Koba Partenadze has been detained on charges of petty hooliganism and repeated verbal insults directed at police officers. The agency informed the IPN news agency that Partenadze verbally insulted law enforcement officers at a police station on August 16.

«Koba Partenadze was detained on the basis of Articles 166 and 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses for petty hooliganism, as well as verbal insults directed at the police that occurred at different times.

On August 16, while being questioned as a witness in a criminal case related to him, Koba Partenadze verbally insulted law enforcement officers—administrative proceedings were initiated regarding the incident.

Furthermore, on the night of August 17, the aforementioned citizen disturbed public order in Batumi with loud profanity. Law enforcement officers repeatedly called on him to cease the unlawful actions, but he refused to comply with the lawful demands of the police officers and insulted them,» the ministry stated.

Earlier, defense attorney Temur Kavshbaya reported that Koba Partenadze had been detained and taken to a temporary detention facility in the town of Zestafoni. According to him, the detention was carried out under administrative procedure.

As a reminder, on August 12, the journalist reported that he had been subjected to threats and insults. A criminal case was opened at the time. Later, on August 16, the TV host stated that he had been attacked once again.
