In the very heart of Brussels, in a studio at the Brussels Art Factory—an art space rented out to creators by a local philanthropist for a nominal fee—a Georgian artist has been painting shadow for years. Merab Surviladze always simply wanted to paint, which is why he dropped out of as many as three educational institutions in Tbilisi and Brussels, why he turned a deaf ear to relatives who tried to dissuade him from such an unstable profession, and why today we are talking about him.
