Detained former Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili has been denied a scheduled visit with his family members, according to the former head of government’s lawyer, Lili Gelashvili.
“He had a scheduled visit with his children, and it was canceled; this happened last week. We do not know the reason. He mentioned this himself as well. I could also ask a counter-question: for what reason have they begun dismissing members of his family from their jobs? Naturally, all of this is interconnected.”
The lawyer did not rule out that psychological pressure is being exerted on Garibashvili in this manner.
“I saw Irakli at the time; he was very angry and, one could say, distressed, as he had prepared to see his children.”
As previously reported, the former Georgian prime minister was served with a new indictment in a case involving large-scale bribery committed by an organized group. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Vasil Mkheidze, a relative of former Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze, reported the alleged corruption to investigative authorities. The agency also noted that Burchuladze himself cooperated with the investigation.
