Georgian citizen Giorgi Uznadze, who was abducted in March 2026 near the village of Orchosani along the occupation line of the Tskhinvali region, has been released. According to the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG), the man is now on territory controlled by the central government in Tbilisi.
The so-called KGB of South Ossetia cited March 17 as the date of detention, whereas Georgia’s SSG reported it as March 18.
Tskhinvali stated that on September 1, «after serving a six-month prison sentence, he [Uznadze] was released and handed over to the Georgian side». The de facto authorities had charged him with “illegal border crossing.” According to their information, the 31-year-old man is a resident of the village of Samtavisi in the Kaspi municipality.
