The funeral of Abkhaz blogger Daur Buava has taken place in Tbilisi. Following a civil memorial service at a funeral home, his coffin was transported to Mukhatgverdi Cemetery. Those gathered applauded as the hearse departed, chanting: “We love you.”

Daur was seen off on his final journey by his family, including relatives who had traveled from Abkhazia, as well as friends and supporters. Among other items, both Abkhaz and Georgian flags were present at the cemetery.

The 32-year-old blogger was found dead on August 28 in his rented apartment in the Didi Digomi district of Tbilisi. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the cause of death was narcotics. As part of the investigation, three people were detained, including a young woman who used illicit substances together with Daur—she is charged with leaving a person in danger.

Daur Buava relocated to Tbilisi from Tkvarcheli in 2021. He later obtained Georgian citizenship. In recent years, the blogger posted videos on social media advocating friendship between Georgians and Abkhazians and the prospects for conflict resolution. In 2022, the de facto State Security Service of Abkhazia charged him with “treason.”
