The Hate Speech Division of the Human Rights Protection Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia has clarified that Tornike Razmadze is being accused of insulting the country’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, on social media.
According to the agency, administrative proceedings against him are being conducted under Articles 166 and 173 (of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Georgia — petty hooliganism and disobedience to a lawful order of a law enforcement officer). A similar case has been initiated against user Anna Bdeyan.
«Employees of the Hate Speech Division of the Human Rights Protection Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs conduct daily work to identify offenses that encompass both insults against a specific individual and profanity in public spaces.
As part of these measures, offensive comments were identified made by citizen Tornike Razmadze, as well as Anna Bdeyan, who insulted Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on social media,» the MIA stated.
Earlier, blogger and civic activist Tornike Razmadze shared information indicating that the Georgian Interior Ministry was holding him accountable for statements directed at Russian propagandists. In particular, according to Razmadze, the Hate Speech Division established within the agency had launched administrative proceedings against him for verbally insulting Margarita Simonyan and Vladimir Solovyov.
