Officers of the Migration Department detained 59 foreign nationals during targeted immigration control operations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reported.
According to the ministry, the detainees were found to be residing in the country in violation of the Law of Georgia “On the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.”
“As a result of comprehensive measures, 59 irregular foreign migrants were detained, including citizens of Kenya, Turkey, Russia, India, Egypt, Ghana, Ethiopia, Uzbekistan, the Philippines, Sudan, Cameroon, China, and Azerbaijan.
As part of the special immigration control operations, department officers inspected designated locations and various facilities to identify foreign nationals staying in Georgia without legal grounds.
It was established that the detained individuals were residing in the country in violation of the provisions established by the Law of Georgia ‘On the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.’
The detainees have been placed in the Migration Department’s Temporary Accommodation Center. Relevant procedures are currently underway with the aim of expelling them from the country.
It should be noted that since the legislative amendments entered into force, Migration Department personnel have conducted 160 targeted immigration control operations, checking a total of 18,000 foreign nationals, and 1,000 identified irregular migrants have already been expelled from Georgia,” the statement said.
