Former head of the State Security Service (SSG) and former Minister of Internal Affairs Geka Geladze has been reassigned to “another agency.” According to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Geladze has been appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.
The head of government thanked Geka Geladze for the “work done,” describing him as “an exceptionally conscientious individual and an outstanding professional. Both as Minister of Internal Affairs and as Head of the State Security Service, he has made an immense contribution to ensuring state security and combating crime, including organized crime, drug trafficking, and corruption.”
According to Irakli Kobakhidze, “Geladze will assume the post of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and will significantly bolster the team at the Ministry of Internal Affairs with his knowledge and experience.”
Earlier today, Geka Geladze released a statement on social media announcing his voluntary resignation as head of the SSG. In the same post, Geladze wrote that he would continue his service in “another agency.” He expressed gratitude to the political team, “especially the honorary chairman of the party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, for their trust.”
Geladze was transferred to the position of head of the SSG in April 2026. Prior to that, he had served as the Minister of Internal Affairs.
