Under an expedited procedure, the Parliament of Georgia considered and passed in the first reading, by 82 votes to one, a legislative package that will recombine the Ministries of Infrastructure and Regional Development into a single agency once it takes effect. In addition, the post of State Minister for the Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies will be abolished.
The amendments to the Law “On the Structure, Authority, and Rules of Operation of the Government of Georgia,” along with accompanying bills, were presented to lawmakers by the Parliamentary Secretary of the Government, Vakhtang Bachiashvili.
According to Bachiashvili, both ministries—across both regional and infrastructure policy domains—have established and maintained an infrastructure and regional project management system grounded in quality control and assurance.
“Concentrating this expertise within a single ministry opens up broader opportunities for both regional development and the infrastructure sector,” the government’s parliamentary secretary stated.
