In January–August 2026, exports from Georgia to Iran grew by 746.8% compared to the same period last year. According to preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), goods worth $161.9 million were shipped to Iran during the first eight months of the year. In January–August 2025, that figure stood at $19.1 million.
The lion’s share of exports was accounted for by passenger cars. Over the first eight months of 2026, Georgia shipped 7,360 passenger vehicles to Iran with a total value of $129.2 million. Passenger cars thus represented approximately 80% of total export volumes to Iran.
Car shipments also demonstrated explosive growth in volume terms: in January–August 2024, Georgia exported just 19 passenger cars to Iran, followed by 10 during the same period in 2025, and 7,360 units in the first eight months of 2026.
Ferroalloys were also among the primary categories of goods exported to Iran, with shipments totaling around $18.2 million.
According to trade statistics for January–August 2026, Iran ranked ninth among Georgia’s key export partners. Shipments to Iran made up a 3% share of Georgia’s total exports.
Over the same reporting period, imports from Iran to Georgia reached $169.4 million.
In January–August 2026, Georgia’s total exports reached $5.42 billion, up 22.1% compared to the same period last year. For the first eight months of 2025, this figure stood at $4.44 billion.
Passenger cars remain the country’s leading export commodity. Total deliveries reached $1.35 billion, accounting for 24.9% of all exports (even as car exports fell by 22% year-on-year).
Petroleum and petroleum products took the second spot at $688.9 million (an increase of 1,067%), while precious metal ores and concentrates ranked third with $403.1 million (+68.6%).
Kyrgyzstan was the top destination for Georgian exports during this period, receiving $577.6 million worth of goods, followed by China at $543.7 million and Russia at $500.7 million.
Deputy Minister of Economy Vakhtang Tsintsadze commented on the figures released by Geostat.
According to him, domestic exports (excluding re-exports) grew by 60% compared to August of last year, reaching a record monthly high of $432.3 million. Tsintsadze noted that this clearly demonstrates an expansion of domestic production.
“Among other things, output is growing for products that are competitive on international markets and exported from Georgia to many countries around the world,” Tsintsadze said.
Specifically, he was referring to refined products manufactured at the Kulevi oil refinery.
