In January–August 2026, Georgia’s external merchandise trade turnover (excluding undeclared trade) reached $17.927 billion, an increase of 8.4% compared to the same period last year. Of this total, exports amounted to $5.422 billion (up 22.1%), while imports stood at $12.504 billion (up 3.4%). Consequently, according to Geostat (the National Statistics Office of Georgia), the country’s negative trade balance over the first eight months of 2026 stood at $7.082 billion, or 39.5% of total external trade turnover.
Furthermore, according to Geostat, the share of the top ten export partner countries in January–August 2026 accounted for 68.8% of Georgia’s total exports. The three leading export destinations were Kyrgyzstan ($577.6 million), China ($543.7 million), and Russia ($500.7 million).
During the same period, the ten largest import partners accounted for 70.2% of the country’s total imports. The top three suppliers were Turkey ($1.918 billion), Russia ($1.532 billion), and the United States ($1.510 billion).
As for the ten largest trading partners overall, data from the statistical agency indicates that their share in Georgia’s total external trade turnover in January–August 2026 reached 65.7%. The country’s top trading partners were Turkey ($2.247 billion), China ($2.043 billion), and Russia ($2.032 billion).
In the export structure for January–August 2026, motor cars held the top spot at $1.347 billion, making up 24.9% of total exports. Petroleum and petroleum products ranked second at $688.9 million (12.7% of the total), followed by precious metal ores and concentrates at $403.1 million (7.4%).
Meanwhile, motor cars also emerged as the largest import commodity group in January–August 2026, with shipments reaching $2.364 billion, or 18.9% of total imports. Petroleum and petroleum products ranked second at $1.164 billion (9.3% of imports), and medicaments took third place with $468.4 million (3.7% of imports).
