Fifty-one UN member states, including Georgia, have adopted a joint statement in support of Ukraine, urging Russia to agree to a complete ceasefire and engage in negotiations.
The statement was delivered in New York within the framework of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
“We express our solidarity with Ukraine as it continues to fight against Russia’s war of aggression… Ukraine wants peace. We want peace. Russia must cease its aggression, agree to a ceasefire, and engage substantively in negotiations to achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in accordance with international law,” the statement reads.
The partner states called for ensuring freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, commercial shipping, and the safety of critical infrastructure, as well as guaranteeing unimpeded Ukrainian grain exports and global food security.
They also called on Russia to immediately return all unlawfully detained, forcibly displaced, or deported Ukrainian civilians, including children, as well as all prisoners of war and internees.
Additionally, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili attended the Sixth International Crimea Platform Summit, themed “Test of Unity, Call to Action,” held in New York alongside the events of the UN General Assembly.
“For Georgia, the issue of Ukraine is not merely another item on the international agenda. We know all too well what the violation of a state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity means,” Botchorishvili stated.
According to her, the Russian occupation of two Georgian regions continues to this day and remains one of the primary security challenges facing the country.
“We are well aware of how devastating the impact of occupation can be on people, families, and society. It is based on this experience that Georgia attaches particular importance to solidarity, respect for international law, and unwavering commitment to the principles upon which a peaceful and secure international order must rest,” Maka Botchorishvili noted.
The Foreign Minister also emphasized the role of the Crimea Platform, pointing out that “the International Crimea Platform is a vital forum for sustaining international attention on Ukraine and, most importantly, for turning our collective support into concrete action.”
At the same time, Maka Botchorishvili reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to peace and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, emphasizing the importance of support from the international community in this effort.
“We welcome any genuine efforts aimed at ending the war and achieving lasting peace—a peace anchored in the principles enshrined in the UN Charter and international law. Georgia stands firmly with the Ukrainian people and reaffirms its unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders,” the Foreign Minister said.
The forum is an annual high-level international platform aimed at mobilizing political support for Ukraine.
