Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has commented on an open letter by Paata Burchuladze, a world-renowned opera singer and one of the organizers of the October 4, 2025 protest (the so-called “peaceful transfer of power”). In his message, Burchuladze specifically urged the opposition to take more decisive action.
“The only interesting element in Paata Burchuladze’s statement is precisely this passage: in its very essence, in its entire present manifestation, the opposition truly resembles a dead fish. They have no resources whatsoever—neither for street protests nor for elections. One moment they talk about elections, the next about the streets, but in reality, they fail in both arenas. Naturally, this will continue for one simple reason: they have no principles, they do not love their country, and that is precisely why they have not achieved and will never be able to achieve any success,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze.
In his letter, Paata Burchuladze addressed critics of the October 4 rally, urging them, instead of engaging in endless talk and speculation, to “propose a better plan of action—and then we, the citizens of Georgia, will follow you”:
“Yet let them not forget one thing: only a dead fish swims with the current,” wrote Burchuladze, who is currently serving a prison sentence.
