There are still forces in Georgia that have not abandoned the idea of retaking Abkhazia by force, stated Badra Gunba, the de facto president of the self-proclaimed republic, while addressing participants of a military parade in Sukhumi marking the “33rd anniversary of Victory in the Patriotic War.”
“Today, life in Abkhazia is peaceful, but we must understand that the situation around us remains complex. We see that there are still forces in Georgia that have not abandoned the idea of taking Abkhazia back by force. This demands that we remain constantly prepared to defend our Motherland.
We are strengthening the Armed Forces of the Republic of Abkhazia, enhancing their combat readiness, and advancing military-technical cooperation with the Russian Federation,” TASS quoted the Sukhumi leader as saying.
“We do not want war. We want peace and stability for our people. But we must be prepared to defend our land, our freedom, and our independence. Today’s parade is not only a tribute to the generation of victors. It is proof that Abkhazia remembers its history and possesses the strength to defend its Motherland.”
According to Gunba, every effort must be made “so that the peace achieved at such a tremendous cost is preserved, so that Abkhazia develops, grows stronger, and future generations live freely in their Motherland.”
Earlier, SOVA reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated de facto President Badra Gunba on the so-called Victory and Independence Day.
