According to the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, defendants in the “October 4” case, Murtaz Zodelava and Lasha Beridze, are prepared to enter into a plea agreement and have filed a formal motion to that effect. The agency noted that Zodelava and Beridze admitted their guilt, expressed remorse, and stated their desire to conclude a plea bargain.
“Murtaz Zodelava and Lasha Beridze, convicted of attempting to seize a strategically important facility, organizing, leading, and participating in group violence, as well as publicly calling for the violent overthrow of Georgia’s constitutional order and government, have admitted to their crimes, expressed remorse, and submitted corresponding petitions to the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the conclusion of a plea agreement.
Given the high level of public interest, the position of the Prosecutor’s Office on this matter will be communicated to the public as soon as a decision is made. As a reminder, by verdict of the Tbilisi City Court, Murtaz Zodelava and Lasha Beridze were found guilty of the charges against them and each sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment,” the Prosecutor’s Office stated in a press release.
On October 4, 2025, alongside local municipal elections in Georgia, a massive protest took place in downtown Tbilisi, branded by the opposition as the “National Assembly.” During the gathering, a declaration was read proclaiming the termination of the authorities’ mandate and the launch of a peaceful transitional period. Shortly thereafter, part of the opposition and its supporters marched toward the presidential residence, where protesters knocked down a perimeter fence and attempted to breach the Orbeliani Palace. The rally was broken up by riot police.
The organizers of the “peaceful transfer of power” were detained and sentenced to prison. The maximum sentences (7 years of imprisonment) were handed down to Murtaz Zodelava and Lasha Beridze, as well as Paata Burchuladze, Irakli Nadiradze, and Paata Manjgaladze.
