Caucasus University has dismissed reports of the alleged poisoning of students on its campus as untrue. Earlier, media reports emerged indicating that several attendees had fallen ill during a freshmen celebration (Welcome Party). At least five young people reportedly required hospitalization due to suspected intoxication.
According to one circulating theory, the deterioration in the students’ condition may have been caused by an “unknown substance being mixed” into their drinks.
However, the university administration stated that several students had become unwell as a result of alcohol intoxication and were provided with appropriate medical assistance.
“Caucasus University is responding to reports circulating in the media and on social networks regarding the freshmen party held on the campus grounds.
We wish to state unequivocally: claims of a suspected student poisoning or any other mass intoxication on university premises do not correspond to reality.
During the event, several students felt unwell due to alcohol intoxication, and they were promptly provided with the necessary medical care. The students’ health is not in jeopardy.”
The university urged the media and the public “not to disseminate unverified information and speculation as confirmed facts,” noting that this harms the reputation of both the students and the institution.
An investigation into the possible intoxication of students at Caucasus University has already been launched under Article 124 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to the negligent infliction of less serious or serious bodily harm.
