The Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance has announced that an investigation is underway regarding Georgian Post.

The agency’s press office has not responded to follow-up inquiries from the publication Publika, leaving it currently unclear under which specific article of the criminal code the investigation is being conducted.

Yesterday, October 7, at a government meeting, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that over the past few years, Georgian Post had incurred annual losses. According to him, the current year will be the first in which the company turns a profit, which he attributed to specific structural reforms.

The Prime Minister noted that a range of services had been outsourced to intermediary companies, and “these intermediary entities served as a convenient vehicle for corruption.”

“The current year will be the first when Georgian Post turns a profit, and all of this is the result of specific changes. A total of 2.5 million lari was saved through workforce optimization alone. Another 1.1 million lari was saved by restructuring loss-making service centers. Furthermore, a wide range of services had been outsourced to intermediary companies. These intermediaries served as a prime conduit for corruption. However, that is something the relevant authorities will likely establish.

Services were funneled out to third-party organizations. Now, these functions have been brought back to Georgian Post, which will allow the company to generate an additional 14.2 million lari in annual revenue,” Kobakhidze emphasized.

On September 1, 2025, it was announced that Giorgi Eradze had been appointed Secretary General of Georgian Post.

According to Public Registry records, Giorgi Eradze concurrently serves as director of Space Cargo LLC and Cargonauts LLC. In addition, he holds ownership stakes in Group Under Umbrella, Businesslab, Lego Food, Red Spiritus, and Cargonauts.

Previously, the post had been held for 13 years by Levan Chikvaidze, who headed Georgian Post as Director General from November 2012 until the summer of 2025.
