The Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has launched an investigation into National Bank Board member Nana Keinishvili. The probe was initiated under the article concerning the unlawful participation in entrepreneurial activity by a public official or an equivalent person.
According to the agency, the investigation was prompted by allegations from a commercial company.
“According to statements submitted to the National Bank of Georgia by the management of Bitexchange LLC, along with the attached audio recordings, National Bank Board member Nana Keinishvili is engaged in entrepreneurial activity and directly controls a network of enterprises subject to regulation by the National Bank, whose shares are registered to her family members and affiliated individuals. According to the same statements, Nana Keinishvili also attempted to acquire a stake in an enterprise supervised by the National Bank, intending in this way to expand her own business.
It should be noted that, in accordance with the Law of Georgia ‘On the Fight Against Corruption’, a public servant is prohibited from engaging in entrepreneurial activities. Furthermore, pursuant to the Organic Law ‘On the National Bank of Georgia’, a member of the National Bank Board and their family members are not permitted to serve as partners in an entity operating within Georgia’s financial sector or an affiliated legal entity,” the statement reads.
