Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze will visit Budapest at the invitation of Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar to attend commemorative events marking the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution, the press service of the government administration reports.
According to the administration, the main anniversary event, at which the Hungarian Prime Minister will deliver an address, will take place on October 23 in the central square of the Hungarian capital.
“The freedom that Central Europe finally regained in 1989 did not begin in 1989. Part of its history was written 33 years earlier, on the streets of Budapest. I have the honor of inviting you to Budapest to commemorate together the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. It will be a great honor for us to have your presence at the event, where we will pay tribute to the people whose courage continues to inspire our shared European future and whose legacy still answers the challenges of our time,” reads the official letter of invitation from Péter Magyar received by the Prime Minister of Georgia.
It is worth noting that in recent years Irakli Kobakhidze has visited Budapest on multiple occasions, but at the invitation of Viktor Orbán, a close ally of Georgian Dream and Magyar’s political opponent.
